it's a cloudy evening in jackson and i'm sitting by a fireplace with yaz (a white alaskan huskie) curled up on the couch next to me. the christmas tree is lit up so beautifully and i'm listening to some fleet foxes with a cup of hot tea. i have to admit, jackson is pretty sweet; with art galleries, sweet coffee shops, gorgeous mountains staring you in the face everyday, everything is accessible, plenty of mountains to hike up and ski down, bison, elk, ice skating to be had and ice fishing!

it's pretty surreal to be here and funny because virginia had a serious snowfall just as i left it. thank goodness it was right before it all came down! but i'm so glad we got snow and sad at the same time because jake (my german shepard mix) is enjoying it without me, bummer! i love watching in play in the snow.

el ten eleven in virginia

first off.. i didn't hear about this band until i went to crossroads to study for my music industry class and one of the dudes working at the coffeeshop put them on.. as i sat there for a good 2-3 hours i couldn't get out of seat. i didn't want to, because one song after another after another was increasingly improving my mood -- not to say my mood was a bad one.. but even still.

so after there was a switch in musicial selection i got off my butt and asked the dude at the counter who that was and he said "el ten eleven" so i wrote it down immediately and looked them up. after playing them constantly on grooveshark (hence my lovely playlist to your right..) --->

i thought it was worth a shot to see if they were touring, and sure enough they were coming to virginia. unfortunately their calendar wouldn't allow for a gig in richmond, but their booking agent suggested in the spring they should be able to make it through to play for a courtyard event and/or another show.

so after e-mailing their booking agent back and forth, i dedicated this past tuesday evening to making it up to arlington at iota cafe to hear them play and to speak to both tim (drummer) and kristian (double-deck guitarist) in person. it was definetly worth the drive and the lack of sleep. good music is always worth the effort.

this duo from la was spectacular to watch, the crowd was so enthusiastic and energetic, they encored 3 times.. and each time they indulged them, and why wouldn't they?

the orchid opened for them and did an amazing job. i spoke with them after the show and because they are from dc, they are more inclined to come down to play, plus they have never played richmond which is really unfortunate, especially since a couple of them seem to be richmond natives. i hope to have them on a bill soon!

my celing caved in!

last night my ceiling caved in! yikesss!!

after a fair share of rain for a week, last week i saw that a leak was commencing, like it does every time it rains, especially in the corner of my living room. a day or so of that, i realized that the ceiling was also beginning to swell a great deal. and then in the early evening yesterday i saw that there were deep cracks in the ceiling and i knew that it was going to eventually give way. so i called my landlord to tell them it will probably collapse any minute now and that it deserves immediate attention. then i heard a huge crash when i was on the computer and realized in fact that it caved in...

so after several messages that i left my landlord, i sat on the other couch, with my dog as he quivered with fright, (wonder to himself what the heck was going on..) i left yet another message with bandazian and holden and then another crash- the hole in my ceiling just got even bigger..

i'm a little sad to say goodbye to my lovely 1 bedroom apt in carytown.
it's been good to me and i've returned the love right back.
but life hands you new opportunities in life and sometimes you got to just roll with the punches.
connie and nelson split up and connie has been staying with me for the past 3 weeks. things have been fantastic, we have had such a great time being together. i love having that girl around, all the time.

well, i know it must be crappy to have to feel so out of place at someone elses living space, with nothing that's yours. so she looked at an apartment on grove and thompson, a 2 bedroom apt. she calls me to tell me how stoked she is about this place. i think to myself "uh oh, what if i like? hmmmm.." so i go to the apt complex and its adorable, the neighbor is super nice, just a block and a half from my current apt. so we walk in and its cutie patootie, its nice and big, all old appliances but i love that stuff. the rooms are real cozy sizes, there private parking, a back door to a patio area, no washer and dryer but we have one in the basement that we could share with the rest of the tenants.

so, we leave the place and go grab lunch at joe's inn. i hear connie talking about the pros and cons and how lara may not like this and might not like that. she tells me how much it is, it's $10 more than i pay at my current 1 bedroom apt. so i ask connie "what are the odds that lara will flake?" since lara doesn't want to move in until june, this apt would just pass them by. so i tell connie "what do you think if i were to tell you that i will move in with you instead?" and she's turning bright red and she begins to cover her face. she doesn't think i'm serious, and i look her dead in the eye with all seriousness, except i can't stop cheesing. she had convinced me that we would be a perfect match, that this is a no brainer for me, so we are roomies now!

but yes, i am a little sad to have to leave this place i have called home for nearly a year. but this is also just a place. and as long as there is love there, i can make any four walls a home.

tonite was our first meeting and 25 women showed up in the pouring rain. and that's only the beginning.
this collective will be huge and will do huge things for our community. no matter what you do, where you have been, you can contribute to richmond, so come to our next meeting and see if it's something you may be interested in too. next meeting is next monday, march 23rd at rumors at 9pm. we will more than likely have meeting every two weeks at rumors or somewhere else on a sunday probably.

we have ladies mostly in their 20's and up! some own their own businesses, some are still students, some are looking to improve richmond in some form or fashion, some just moved here. there are so many wonderful women in this city, with so much to offer each other.. like: crafts, bikes, law, education, nursing, marketing, theatre, sewing, painting, writers, readers, teachers, students, the list goes on...and on. im so stoked!

so my friend, rodrigue found an old journal he had people in high school write in, our senior year of high school in 2002. he scanned the pages that i wrote in.. so crazy how i wrote, and what i wrote about! what a crazy time machine. not too much has changed, as far as favorites go..

i am the female lead in this independent film. logan conner, a high school classmate is the male lead and the director cory tapia, a kinetic imaging classmate of mine. it doesnt look like february will be when to expect it.. but it will showing at the byrd i believe.. one day. i will give you all a heads up.

nelson is in the hospital with pancreatitis this new years.
it's acute (it happened suddenly) for him. he's super scared and in a lot of pain, unable to smoke a cigarette and eat real solid foods.
it's a serious condition and he needs all the prayers he can get..

another christmas

its another christmas.. good god.. do they sneak up on me each and every year. but this year seems as though it just zoomed on by considerably faster.. why i'm not certain..

i'm so appreciative of what i have in my life, sometimes i need to just stand still and breathe it in and reflect on how rewarding this year has been for me. all the positive people that have made it in my life and some people that have found their way back to me. one person in particular. her name is heather, we were roommates my sophomore year. she was an unexpected surprise, so closely to my birthday did she pop back into my life. i couldn't have asked for anything more than that.. i didn't want for anything this year until i realized in fact, she was missing.

i'm blessed for sure.. she made it back to me and i'm grateful. who knows how long she will stick around.. but who cares.. hopefully forever. her friendship meant a great deal and still does, but after excepting her disappearance, years ago.. it never accured to me that she would one day knock on my door. i'm thankful that she has.

life happens and a long the way you meet or reconnect with people unexpectedly.
i am grateful i found interest in a boy, that she was also into.. and in turn i met andrea.
i am grateful i had met andrea, and in turn met connie.
i am grateful that i dated matt, and in turn met many amazing people, to name a few: nikki, stephanie, maggie, chewy, lauren.. and others in between.
i am grateful that connie and i visited andrea in brooklyn, and in turn i met kerrigan.
i am grateful that i visited san diego to see davers and his baby boy, trey, and in turn met lee.
i am grateful for working with camille and for the opportunity to be closer than ever and find a true friend in her!
i am grateful for working with erin also, that our friendship just grew over time and it's awesome! eeeeeeeee!

i am grateful for a many things this year.
and i want for nothing.. i am rich in friends.
